Latin America & the Caribbean

The World Bank provides customized support to its client countries in Latin America and the Caribbean to help them achieve sustained and equitable economic growth and improve the lives of their people.

These countries are a very diverse group, ranging from the small island states of the Caribbean to large federative countries such as Argentina and Brazil, from fragile states such as Haiti to OECD member countries such as Mexico, from IDA countries such as Bolivia, Honduras and Nicaragua to upper middle income economies with investment grade rating such as Chile and Costa Rica, and even high income economies such as Barbados. The Regions includes both net importers and exporters of energy and agricultural commodities, experiencing opposite effects from the same price shocks.  Many countries in the region are facing a range of climate change events, from increased hurricane frequency in the Caribbean to glacier retreat in the Andes.

Despite this wide variation, there are also some common challenges that most of the Region’s countries face.  These include improving long term growth potential, addressing persistent high inequality and poverty, improving governance, and responding to the challenges of an increasingly globalized world.  The World Bank’s regional strategy in Latin America and the Caribbean is accordingly centered on these four themes.

LAC Results in Action is a library of written briefs, videos, and other materials that report on the results of World Bank financed activities in Latin America and the Caribbean. You can search this library by country or by sector.

The library aims is to share knowledge about how people's lives have changed and how institutions are performing better, as a result of Bank-funded projects and technical assistance. The "Results in Action" library is part of a broad effort by the World Bank to manage by and for results and to help its clients to strengthen their own monitoring and evaluation of development effectiveness.
