ENERGY PARALLEL SESSION 1: WIND POWER DEVELOPMENT: OVERCOMING SYSTEM AND TRANSMISSION BARRIERS

The session will discuss the technical challenges of integrating wind to the power grid. The session will focus on system-wide policy, regulatory and operational challenges to achieve larger levels of wind penetration and on the transmission investment challenges for wind interconnection. The topics are of relevance for both developing countries that already have some level of wind integration and would like to speed up efforts to achieve large levels of penetration, as well as for developing countries already pursuing wind development and its where its integration has been challenged by transmission interconnection aspects both in terms of the transmission investment needs and the technical interconnection requirements.
